This park was added to the list of World Heritage Sites in 1979. It is an ideal trip for travelers who want to fulfill their wish of witnessing the top of the world, “Mt. Everest,” along with other majestic mountain scenery, nature’s enthralling beauty, Sherpa settlements, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and vibrant festivals — all within a short period of time.
Sagarmatha National Park World Heritage Tour/Trek offers great insight into Sherpa culture without the challenges of high-altitude adventure activities. It is perfect for mountain lovers who are curious about the mysterious creature “Yeti,” supported by the Yeti skull kept in the monastery of the ancient Khumjung village.
The colorful Buddhist prayer flags, prayer wheels, intricately carved Mani stones on every hilltop, rock, and trailside — praying with every breeze — combined with glistening snow-capped peaks, make the myth of “Shangri-La” feel almost real.
Sagarmatha National Park World Heritage Tour fulfills the desires of travelers wishing to explore the heart of the Khumbu region. The journey begins with a short flight to Lukla, then continues into Sagarmatha National Park, and onward to Namche Bazaar, where visitors can explore the Sherpa living museum and enjoy mesmerizing sunrise and sunset views over Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and other captivating Himalayan peaks.
Mt. Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kusum Kangaru, Kangtega, Kwangde, and others add to the astonishing panorama for trekkers. Apart from breathtaking mountain beauty, wildlife such as musk deer, snow leopard, bear, wild goat (Jharal), Himalayan cock, impeyan pheasant, wild pigeon, etc., along with diverse vegetation, make the Sagarmatha National Park World Heritage Tour even more remarkable.
Trees such as rhododendron, birch, blue pine, juniper, and silver fir grow up to an altitude of 4,000 meters, beyond which the terrain transitions into scrub and alpine vegetation. In late spring and summer, the hillsides around Namche Bazaar, Khumjung, Thyangboche, and Thame burst with colorful blossoms of several species of rhododendron and other plants.
Tengboche (3,867 m) is the main destination of the Sagarmatha National Park World Heritage Tour. The historic Tengboche Monastery, situated at one of the world's highest places, offers a 360-degree mountain panorama and a peaceful monastery visit, where trekkers may be fortunate enough to witness sacred ceremonies.
