It is believed that all miseries and sorrows are relieved once you visit the Muktinath Temple. Mukti means Nirvana or the state of liberation or freedom, and Nath means God. The famous Muktinath Temple lies in the Mustang district, situated about 18 km northeast of Jomsom at an altitude of 3,800 meters. The Buddhist and Hindu shrine, shaped like a pagoda, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Set into the wall around it are 108 waterspouts from which holy water pours. Even during winter, people take a bath here to wash away their sins (bad karma).

People believe that one should visit this temple after completing the pilgrimage to the four special religious sites in India. Muktinath Temple is held sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists. The nearby Jwala Mai Temple contains a spring and an eternal flame fed by natural underground gas, believed to be a divine manifestation. There are world-class accommodation facilities in Jomsom, from where one can enjoy remarkable natural beauty.

There are two ways to reach Muktinath: either take a flight from Pokhara to Jomsom or hike for 7–8 hours from Jomsom. Another option is trekking all the way from Pokhara through the Kali Gandaki Valley, which takes 7–8 days.
