A visit to Nepal remains incomplete without seeing the beauty of the Terai. One of the most traditional and conservative indigenous nationalities of Nepal, the Chepangs live in Chitwan. They have their own distinct language, which belongs to one of the Tibeto-Burman strains. Chepangs are mostly hunters and gatherers. They are animists and their clan priests are called Pandes. It is felt that their religion and culture are influenced by the Tamangs. One of Asia’s finest national parks, renowned for its dense concentration of wildlife. Seas of elephant grass ripple beneath a magnificent sunset & pervasive sense of relaxation soaks in deeper the longer you stay. For a country known for its beautiful mountains, the Gangetic flat lands of the Terai that stretches through out the southern part of Nepal provide a whole different experience.Surrounding Chitwan National Park in southern Nepal is one of the best planned and most intelligently developed tourist areas in Nepal. Not only does it offer a wide variety of resorts and lodges, it is also easy to reach - by road or by air. Regular flights are scheduled by Royal Nepal Airlines and other airlines to Meghauli, Simara and Bharatpur. Many resorts provide coach service. Local buses offer a choice between a night ride and a day ride.
Chitwan National Park is perhaps the best park in Nepal for seeing animals in the wild. In the earlier part of the century, when rapid deforestation was devastating Nepal's southern Terai belt, Government of Nepal intervened and proclaimed the Chitwan area a national park. The Government of Nepal declared the Chitwan region a national park, outlawed settlement and deforestation within its boundaries, and a campaign to save the animals began. Projects carried out with the help of friendly nations have revived the animals that remained. Though the Terai is certainly not what it once was, the preserved portion within the Chitwan National Park is still a treat for animal lovers. Royal Bengal tigers roam the region; one-horned rhinos can be seen charging through the underbrush, feeding and even courting. The Rapti River has been dammed to form a man-made lake called Lamital where water-birds and marsh mugger peckers and many other birds are found in plenty in these forests. Elephant grass, five to six feet tall, provides excellent camouflage for animals. This grass serves as food for the gaur (a local bison), rhino and other herbivores. Once a year, local people are allowed into the park area to cut grass. The grass is dried, and used to thatch roofs or stored for food for the domestic animals during the dry season
GETTING THERE By Raft (scenic or white water):If we departure from Kathmandu by surface we should start at 7.00 A.M. by car/coach for Mugling (confluence of Marshynagdi and Trisuli river) from where exciting rafting begins and floats down to a picnic spot for lunch along the river side. Continue your destination where our vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to Chitwan.
BY SURFACE Departure from Kathmandu at 7.00 A.M by car/ coach for Chitwan National park on the Mugling-Narayanghat highway 175 kms for a scenic four hour drive.
BY AIR By air service will be available from Kathmandu to Bharatpur as every day. It takes about 20 min.
Elephant Back Safari:
One can monitor wildlife activities in the deep jungle while sitting on a well trained elephant. The duration of elephant back safari is about one and half hours. Our trained naturalist will accompany you and can explain about the animals, flora and fauna of the Park.
Chitwan Cultural Tour
Tharus are the indigenous inhabitations of the Terai. Our expert guide will help you to meet the Tharu people and experience their traditional way of living. This brings you many years back to human civilization and in the evening, we will entertain you with Tharu folk dances performed by Tharu troupes and invite guests to join them in this rhythmic display. Jeep Safari is a fast and safer way to discover a wide range of the forest environment in the Chitwan National Park. A four hour jeep drive covers about 50 km inside the park including the crocodile breeding centre.
Dugout Canoe Ride
During the canoe trip on the Rapti River, you will be able to view an array of nature's beautiful riverside scenery including different types of birds, two types of crocodile - Gharial and Mugger basking on the river bank, and other aquatic creatures.
Elephant Breeding Center
This is the first elephant breeding centre in Asia and situated only two km. from our hotel. Our naturalist will take you to the elephant breeding center to show the baby elephants socializing with their parents. How the elephant meals are prepared and how they eat. They will explain the nature and habits of the elephant. The centre is government owned and its purpose is to raise the young elephant to secure a viable population.

On a sunny day, one of the main attractions in the Rapti River is swimming with the Elephant.
