Nepal’s natural beauty not only attracts adventure lovers, but the spectacular Himalayan panorama also offers lifelong opportunities for leisure holidays. Nepal is gaining popularity in the field of golf. Golf in Nepal is still considered an expensive game by many people, though. In the mid-19th century, the aristocratic Rana family introduced golf to Nepal.
After a long interval, Nepal is gaining increasing attention for golf tours. Every year, several golf tournaments are organized, and many golf experts enjoy playing golf in the land of the Himalayas. Some golfers also take part in adventure trekking. Kathmandu and Pokhara offer excellent golf courses and activities. There are about five international golf courses providing golf tours in Nepal.
Gokarna Forest Golf Resort in Kathmandu is one of the finest golf resorts in South Asia, featuring an 18-hole, par-72 course. Gokarna Forest Resort also offers specialized golf tours. Nepal Golf Club in Tilganga, Kathmandu—located inside the International Airport compound—is one of the oldest golf clubs in Nepal and Asia.
The Himalayan Golf Club in Pokhara, situated about 6 kilometers from the city, is a recently completed, professional-championship-designed 9-hole course located in a beautiful amphitheater-like river canyon with panoramic views of the Annapurna Himalayan range.
Yeti Golf Club, with a 9-hole par-3 course, is operated by Fulbari Resort in Pokhara, and the newly developed Nirvana Country Club with a 9-hole golf course is located in Dharan, in the eastern part of Nepal.
