Bardia National Park is located in the western part of Nepal that was established in 1988 as Royal Badia National Park. It's situated in plain lands, covering an area of 968 sq. km and it is the largest and most undisturbed wilderness area in Nepal's Terai, adjoining the eastern bank of the Karnali River in the Bardiya District. The wide range of vegetation types in forests and grassland provides excellent habitat for 642 faunal species. The Karnali-Babai river system, their small tributaries, and myriads of oxbow lakes are a habitat for 125 recorded species of fish and mugger crocodiles. A small population of gharial inhabits the rivers.

Apart from the crocodiles, 23 reptile and amphibian species have been recorded. Current checklists include 407 bird species, among them the Bengal florican, white-rumped vulture, peafowl, and bar-headed geese, which are symbolic of the park. It is the largest and most undisturbed protected area in the Terai, home to many endangered species including tiger, wild elephant, rhinoceros, swamp deer, blackbuck, gharial crocodile, marsh mugger crocodile, and Gangetic dolphin. The enchanting birds found here are the Bengal florican, lesser florican, Silver-eared media, and Sarus Crane. The national park is full of open grasslands and glades. Making it an ideal place for game-viewing.

We Explore Tourism offers a Wildlife tour in Bardia National Park Bardia. National Park is famous for its elephant safari or jungle drive. During jungle safari or elephant safari, you will come across small herds of wild elephants. You will see the rhinoceros also in the park. Here you can gain the experience of your lifetime. While doing the jungle safari you can observe 30 different mammals, more than 250 species of birds, and varieties of reptiles and aquatic animals.

For pleasurable sightseeing, you should be in Sukarmala from where you can see the panoramic view of Surkhet valley and the elongating plains of the Terai. Here you will have the opportunity of fishing masher, a large game fish.

DETAIL ITINERARY:

Day 01: Fly to Nepalgunj & Drive to Bardia National Park:

We take an hour's flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj in Western Nepal, the nearest airport from the Bardia National Park. Nepalgunj itself is an interesting Terai town of Nepal with influences from both the Nepal hills as well as local Hindu & Muslim cultures. The Bardia National Park is 90 kilometers from Nepalgunj, a 2 hours drive. Reaching Bardia, you will be transferred to your resort. There will be a briefing about the program at the National Park. In the evening, a village tour to an ethnic Tharu village nearby believed to be the original inhabitants of the local jungle area.

Day 02: Full Day Activities in Bardia National Park including Jungle Walk:

After breakfast, we embark on a Jungle Drive deep into the woods. The Bardia jungle is home to a number of wild animals including the Asian Elephant, Great Horn Rhinoceros, Spotted Deer or Chital, Hog Deer, Barking Deer, Samber, Swamp Deer or Barasingha, Nilgai, Black Buck, Wild Boar, Royal Bengal Tiger, Leopard, Golden Jackal, and Striped Hyena, etc.

Visit to crocodile breeding center and the Tharu Museum. There are also towers (Machan) at different places where you can wait for the unsuspecting wild-lives to pass by so that you may shoot them (of course with your camera!). Our experienced nature guide would help you in tracking wildlife. Overnight at the National Park. (B)

Day 03: Full Day Activities in Bardia National Park including Jungle Safari & Relax:

We have another full day for our wildlife experience. In the morning, we go for a jungle walk which would also serve the purpose of bird-watching.

An interesting feature of today's activities is the elephant safari into the deep & dense jungle. Apart from the fun, another benefit of an elephant ride into the jungle is that there is a better chance of seeing wild animals since the wild animals are less scared when you're on top of their mammoth friend. Moreover, riding the elephant also saves you from any potential attacks by wild animals. The elephants usually head northwest and you may see deer, langur monkeys, rhinos, and boar. In the evening, watch the cultural program and Western Nepal Tharu dance organized by the villagers.

Day 04: Drive to Nepalgunj & Fly to Kathmandu:

Today after taking breakfast we drive back to Nepalgunj to catch the flight to Kathmandu. Depending on the flight time, we can spend some time visiting nearby places. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to Hotel Shanker or a similar category hotel. Share your experience with travel companions, and trade emails, and organize the photos. You can spend the evening leisurely, perhaps catch up on some last-minute shopping or stroll around in the streets. In the evening, celebrations & dinner together with Global Holidays Adventure Staff.
