Bardia National Park is situated on the eastern banks of the Karnali River in the plains, about 400 km west of the capital city, Kathmandu. The parks are the largest and most undisturbed wilderness areas in the Terai, covering 968 sq. km in area and extending from the Churia hills southward to the gentle slopes of the 'Bhabhar' area. The western end of the Bardia is bounded by numerous waterways of the Karnali River, which have created many large and small gravel islands.

In the beginning, a small area was gazetted as the Royal Karnali Wildlife Reserve in 1976. When this area was protected, approximately 1500 people of the Babai valley were resettled outside the park, allowing the vegetation and wildlife to thrive. In 1982, it was renamed as Bardia Wildlife Reserve, and in 1984, it was extended to its current size. The reserve was given the status of a National Park in 1988. It is a mosaic of grassland and forest of Acacia, Sisam, and the large Buttrersed silk cotton trees cover these islands and much of the lower ground.

Bardia is the home of a wide variety of animals, many of which live in and around the National Park. Spotted deer, Black buck, Hog deer, Samber deer, Wild boar, Swamp deer, two species of Monkeys, Wild elephants, Crocodile, Dolphin, and Blue bull are found in Royal Bardia National Park during your Wildlife Tour. And more than 350 species of birds have been recorded in Bardia, truly a bird watcher's paradise.

In addition, there will be nature walks in the jungle as well as bird watching and village tours, all of which will be accompanied by expert naturalists. The highlight of this trip will be viewing from the watch towers (Machhan) to have the wild sightseeing, accompanied by our experienced naturalist and wildlife trackers. HOW TO GO?

For the Bardiya Wildlife Tour, there are two access by air or land.

By Air:

If you choose to fly, there is a daily flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, which is the nearest airport to the Royal Bardia National Park. You will get there after about an hour flying from Kathmandu, and then you will be received by our naturalist at the Nepalgunj Airport. From the airport, drive the Jeep to our Hotel /Lodge for your Bardiya Wildlife Tour.

By Road:

You can reserve a private transport and reach the hotel alternatively, take overnight or day buses plying on the route of Dhangadi, Mahendranagar, or Karnali. Drop at Ambassa (the gateway of Royal Bardia National Park), which takes 16 hours from Kathmandu, 12hours from Pokhara 9 hours from Chitwan.

ACTIVITIES IN BARDIA

Crocodile Breeding Center:

Visit fascinating visit to the fascinating crocodile Breeding Center.

Jeep Drive:

For an adventurous excursion, we also offer to take you through the road less jungle in a four-wheel drive vehicle. The slow growl of open jeeps, the sights and sounds of real animals in the wild can be an unforgettable experience during your holidays.

Rafting at Karnali River:

White water rafting and scenic float through exciting rapids, deep gorges, forested hillsides, and remote villages. You have an excellent opportunity for bird watching. Packed lunch will be provided.

Village Tour: The jungle scenery, birds, and animals alone do not make up the unique features of Royal Bardia National Park. The indigenous local people, the Tharus, are also of enormous interest. A professional guide/expert naturalist will accompany you through the area and help you gather insights into the Tharu way of life.

Elephant Safari:

An excellent opportunity to see Asian Elephant, Great One-Horned Rhinoceros, Spotted Deer or Chital, Hog Deer, Barking Deer, Samber, Swamp Deer or Barasinghe, Nilgai or Blue Bull, Black Buck, Wild Boar, Royal Bengal Tiger, Leopard, Wild Dog, Golden Jackal, Striped Hyena. You will also encounter many other smaller mammals that have made Royal Bardia National Park their home.

Cultural Programmed:

A cultural program performed by the Tharus will be another highlight of your visit to Bardia. The Tharus in colorful traditional costumes, unique in their disparity with the common mode of dress all over Nepal, are sure to captivate you.

DETAIL ITINERARY

DAY 01 KATHMANDU FLIES TO NEPALGUNJ

Drive or fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. You will be picked up from here. After the briefing about the programs, enjoy breakfast. Visit to crocodile breeding center and Tharu village. Jungle drive the whole day with a packed lunch. You enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 02 FULL DAY JUNGLE ACTIVITIES

After breakfast, you set out for a jungle walk. You walk to Rhino’s, Elephant’s, and Tiger’s territory up to Gola, Dolphin Place. You enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 03 FULL DAY JUNGLE ACTIVITIES

Today, you visit the black sanctuary with a packed lunch and drive to Babai Bridge, and walk upstream along the gorge of the Babai River. You return to lodge in the evening. You enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 04 AFTER BREAKFAST DRIVE TO NEPPALGUNJ & FLY BACK TO KATHMANDU

After breakfast, you depart from the Lodge for Kathmandu.
