Tilman Pass Trekking is considered a challenging trek in a remote and wild part of the Himalayan range of Nepal. The Tilman Pass trek offers stunning views of the Langsisha Glacier, the tranquil five sacred lakes around Panch Pokhari, and the extremely remote Jugal Himal, which links the Himalayas from Kangchenjunga in the east to Dhaulagiri in the west.
This region is home to the rare red panda, various wildlife species, diverse vegetation, and the Tamang ethnic group, known for their rich heritage and culture.
The Tilman Pass Trek begins with a drive from Kathmandu through golden-yellow paddy fields and lush subtropical vegetation to the roadhead at the Tamang village of Chautara, close to the Bhotekoshi River. The trek can also start with a 132 km drive north from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi and end in Chautara via Tilman Pass (5350 m).
This famous trekking trail connects two different Himalayan regions — Langtang and Panch Pokhari (Five Holy Lakes) — offering panoramic Himalayan views of Langtang Lirung, Langtang Himal, Naya Kanga, Yala Peak, Ganesh Himal, Langshisa, Gaurishankar, Dorje Lakpa, and more. The lush forests filled with rhododendron and pine trees are home to wild animals such as Himalayan thars, bears, leopards, jackals, monkeys, wild boars, pheasants, and peacocks. The sacred five lakes add extra charm for trekkers. This is a less crowded, off-the-beaten trail for trekkers who prefer remote nature.
Tilman Pass Trekking provides a great opportunity to enjoy different Himalayan landscapes, high mountain passes, and the lifestyle and culture of rural mountain communities, supported by the experience of the Adventure Zone Trekking team.
Langtang Tilman Pass Trekking is also known as the Jugal Himal Trek or Panch Pokhari Trek — a cluster of five small lakes situated in a vast, boulder-strewn amphitheatre near the small temple of Vishnu, a sacred pilgrimage site for Hindus.
