The Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek is one of the popular and easiest trekking trails in the Everest region. This trek offers superb Himalayan scenery including Mount Everest (8,848m), Mount Lhotse (8,516m), Mount Nuptse (7,855m), Mount Pumori (7,145m), Mount Ama Dablam (6,856m), Mount Thamserku (6,723m), Mount Kantega (6,779m), Mt. Kusum Khangaru (6,367m), Gauri Shanker Himal (7,145m), Numbur Himal (6,988m), Island Peak (6,179m), etc. The Lukla–Everest Base Camp–Kala Patthar trek can be completed within 3–4 weeks from Jiri. From Jiri, trekkers can take a longer route via Gokyo Ri and Cho La Pass before finally reaching Everest Base Camp.

Jiri to Everest Base Camp is breathtaking and requires good walking experience and good physical condition. The trek is very interesting with its panoramic Himalayan views, passing through the famous Sherpa villages of Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Buddhist Monastery, Khunde, Khumjung, etc. The lower regions are inhabited by Brahmin, Chhetri, Magar, and Tamang communities, while the highlands of Solukhumbu are home to the Sherpa people.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 01: Kathmandu to Jiri (2,100m)

The drive normally takes 7–8 hours, covering 188 km from Kathmandu. You will enjoy excellent panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas, including Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, and Dorje Lakpa. The road descends to Panchkhal, crosses the Sun Koshi River, and joins the Swiss-made road to Jiri.

After crossing a pass at 2,440m, the road sweeps down to Charikot and then descends into the Tama Koshi valley, climbing again above Kabre. Finally, it drops along a ridge to Jiri Bazaar. Overnight at Jiri Bazaar.

Day 02: Jiri to Bhandar (2,150m)

Walking through deep forests, the trail climbs uphill to a ridge at 2,370m. Passing through Mali, a Sherpa village, you cross a bridge to Shivalaya and continue to Bhandar, where you will see a police check post and two impressive chortens. Overnight in Bhandar.

Day 03: Bhandar to Sete (2,575m)

From Bhandar, the trail descends through deep forests into a canyon, passes Baranda, and reaches Likhu Khola (1,490m). You may spot grey langur monkeys playing in the treetops. After climbing to Kenja (1,570m), a village of Newars and Magars, continue up to Chimbu (2,140m) and then Sete. Overnight in Sete.

Day 04: Sete to Junbesi (2,675m)

The trail heads into lush mountain forests of rhododendron, magnolia, and birch. One hour above Sete brings you to Dagchu (2,880m), and then to Goyom (3,300m). The route descends steeply to Tragdobuk (2,860m) before reaching the beautiful Sherpa village of Junbesi. Spend the afternoon exploring the village. Overnight in Junbesi.

Day 05: Junbesi to Nuntala (2,250m)

Cross the Junbesi Khola and climb toward Phaplu, home to an airstrip and district headquarters. From Khurtang (2,980m), you get your first view of Everest, Thamserku, and Mera Peak. The trail continues past the monastery of Trakshindo and descends to Nuntala. Overnight in Nuntala.

Day 06: Nuntala to Bupse (2,300m)

The trail descends to the Dudh Koshi and reaches Jubling, decorated with marigolds. Passing Sherpa and Magar villages, the trail drops to Khari Khola and then climbs steeply to Bupse. Overnight in Bupse.

Day 07: Bupse to Chabblung

Climb steadily with early-morning views of Khumbila and Cho Oyu before reaching Surke (2,290m). The trail passes small valleys through forests to Mushe, then continues to Chaunikharka (2,650m). A final steep ascent brings you to Chabblung. Overnight in Chabblung.

Day 08: Chabbling to Namche Bazaar (3,420m)

Climb gradually to reach Namche Bazaar, the lively centre of the Sherpa community. Overnight in Namche.

Day 09: Acclimatisation in Namche

After breakfast, take sightseeing trips around Namche. Hike to Everest View Hotel for panoramic views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lhotse, and more. Visit Khumjung village, Hillary School, and Khunde Hospital. Explore the mountaineering museum and Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Centre. Overnight in Namche.

Day 10: Namche to Tengboche (3,850m)

The trail goes up and down to Sanasa, descends to Teshinga, and drops steeply to Phunki Thanga. A 2-hour climb leads to Tengboche, home to the famous Tengboche Monastery. Overnight in Tengboche.

Day 11: Tengboche to Pheriche (4,240m) / Dingboche (4,350m)

Walk through Devuche and reach Pangboche (3,860m). Continue through Shomare and Orsho before the trail divides—one leading to Dingboche and the other to Pheriche. Overnight at either location.

Day 12: Pheriche / Dingboche to Lobuche (4,930m)

The trail ascends gradually, reaches Duglha, and then climbs steeply up the Khumbu Glacier before arriving at Lobuche. Overnight in Lobuche.

Day 13: Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5,160m)

A gradual trail leads to Gorak Shep, offering excellent views of Mt. Pumori. Overnight in Gorak Shep.

Day 14: Hike to Kala Patthar & Visit Everest Base Camp

Early morning hike to Kala Patthar (5,545m) for a breathtaking panoramic sunrise view of Everest, Khumbu Icefall, and surrounding peaks. Return to Gorak Shep for lunch. In the afternoon, hike to Everest Base Camp (5,400m). Overnight in Gorak Shep.

Day 15: Gorak Shep to Pheriche

After breakfast, descend to Duglha and continue to Pheriche. Enjoy stunning mountain views, including Pumori, Lingtren, Changtse, Nuptse, and Everest. Overnight in Pheriche.

Day 16: Pheriche to Tengboche

Descend to a lower elevation, passing the old Pangboche village. Tengboche offers spectacular mountain views with its iconic monastery. Overnight in Tengboche.

Day 17: Tengboche to Namche

Walk through forests of pine, juniper, rhododendron, and birch to reach Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche.

Day 18: Namche to Lukla

A long descent to Monjo and Phakding before the final climb to Lukla. Enjoy the last evening with your trekking team. Overnight in Lukla.

Day 19: Lukla to Kathmandu

Morning flight to Kathmandu (weather permitting). Transfer to the hotel. The trek ends in Kathmandu.
