EXACT POINT TO FOLLOW TO ISLAND PEAK FOR ISLAND PEAK CLIMBING IN EVEREST TREKKING REGION:

After a few days, we follow the branch way to Gokyo for Island Peak climbing, and after climbing Gokyo RI for fantastic views of Cho Oyu and Everest, we cross the Cho La and descend to Dingboche to prepare for the ascent of Island Peak.

Island Peak was the name given to the mountain in 1952 by Eric Shipton's party, when they summated the top of Island Peak, who thought it to be reminiscent of an island in a sea of ice. Island Peak is the foreign name, and it is also known by its Nepali name of Imja Tse Peak.

The mountain is an extension of Lhotse Shar, and is located between the Lhotse and Imja glaciers, standing at 6,189m/20,305ft, giving panoramic views of the mountains around, valleys and other natural beauties to those who are on top and tempting others from the sayings of summiteers. We ascend by the standard route, and although the summit can be reached in one day from base camp, we make use of a high camp.

The final ridge is a classic of its kind, and from the summit, fabulous views can be enjoyed of many Himalayan giants, including the immense south face of Lhotse and the huge peak of Ama Dablam.

Why is ITS NAME ISLAND PEAK?

Imse Tse peak is more popularly known by the name of Island peak. Eric Shipton's party named the island in 1952, as the peak resembles an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. Later in 1983, the peak was renamed Imjatse.

Island Peak was first climbed in 1953 by a British expedition team as training for ascending Mt. Everest. The peak is a part of the south ridge of Lhotse Shar, and the main land forms a semicircle of cliffs that rise to the north of the summits of Nuptse, Lhotse, and Lhotse Shar. Before climbing Island Peak, we trek up the Dudh Kosi valley from Lukla, passing through Namche and Tengboche on our way to Kala Pattar and the Everest Base Camp Trek, which is optional and can be customised as per the needs and depending upon the interest of our customers.

Fully fit and acclimatised, we then head up the beautiful Imja Khola valley towards Island Peak. Following our ascent of Island Peak, we retrace our route back through Namche to Lukla, and from there we fly back to Kathmandu.
