Nagarkot is 39 km/24.23mile far from Thamel one and half-hour drive away by car passes through Bhaktapur city. It is situated on hill with an altitude of 2000 m (6561 ft) high but the tower is 4 km/2.48 mile walking distance with an altitude of 2175m/7136ft high above the sea level. Nagarkot literally means ‘Fort of the city’ where there is also Nepalese Army set up a post. Tamang (majority) people is the majority inhabitants and Bahun, Newars communities are also living here. Nagarkot is an attractive day trip for sunrise and sunset viewers’ with180 degrees of the Himalayan panoramic view from Annapurna in the Northwest to Mount Everest Region in the Northeast.
The views of Bhaktapur in the South and Kathmandu in the Southwest are best from the towers. The Shangri-La view of landscapes, valleys, rice terraces, snow caped mountain including life of rural people of Nepal. The greenery, near the nature with different types of plants and animals are here. Mountain tranquility, fresh breeze makes the holiday pleasant. Nagarkot is about 3:30 hours hiking trip from Changu Narayan, from Banepa 4:30 hours, from Sankhu 3 hours and from Chisopani 6:30 hours hiking trips. Trekkers walk from Helambu and Langtang trekking to end their trekking trips here and is stayed overnight with nice hotels and next morning should go back to the Kathmandu city.
