Ganjala Pass trekking is one of the most challenging passes in the gigantic Nepal Himalaya. It is a combination of geographical diverse beauties, dwelling of varieties vegetation and many wildlife one hand, and high Himalayan Tamang typical cultural heritage and astonishing nature beauties are main features for the trekkers in other hand. The Ganja La Pass is located north of Kathmandu, accessible of 132 km drive in Langtang Region, offering multitude of trekking destinations.

Langtang Ganja La Pass Trek tender an opportunity to explore typical Tamang village, their culture is similar as Tibetan and the panoramic Himalayan view of the Langtang Lirung, Gahesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Yala Peak, Naya Kang, Gaurishanker including the giant Annapurna Himalaya rang far in the horizon. The Langtang Ganja La Pass Trekking is an entirely wilderness and adventure experience for the mountains lovers and adventures seekers. During spring the forest on the trail is colorful and blooming full of Rhododendrons, it seems like paved fancy carpet on the trail. The trip into Helambu area via the Ganja-La pass (5,122m), which is serious undertaking requiring good equipment and experience from local Guides. For this challenging trek requires the use of technical climbing equipment and trekkers must be skilled in the use of this and be prepared to assist less well- equipped potters and staff. For few days there are no facilities of any lodges and houses along the trail, that’s why the groups have with their staff, must be fully self-sufficient of food and camping gears. The trail follows a small valley before reaching the glaciated pass where have to use of ropes, crampons and ice axes may be necessary.

The House and Camping operating Langtang Gangala Pass Trekking starts from Sybru Bensi towards to Langtang Valley follow the Langtang range to the east until you get to Kyanjing Gompa (3,049m), where is a small Buddhist monastery and a qualities cheese factory, starting in 1955 by the Swiss Association for Technical Assistance. The trail leads up to the high alpine yak pastures and glaciers moraines around at Ngegang (4404 m). The trail of Ganja La Pass (5122m) can see spectacular views of Langtang Lirung and the Tibetan peaks beyond, the last few 100m trails are precarious, so we use a rope there for safety, though the utmost care is enough. The descent from the pass is on a steep slope for over 1 km, which requires good care again. But the rest of the trail is easy and comfortable. After passing the Ganjala Pass, the trail takes you Kelchung and can be reached from another series of huts at Dukpu (4023m) and next we head southwest descending past Gekye Gompa to reach Tarke Ghyang in Helambu valley and follow trek trail to Melamchi Pul Bazaar or Talamarang and catch bus to Kathmandu. The Helambu village excludes a Tibetan feel and you will see fields enclosed by stone walls as well as herds of yaks, the most important livestock for the people here.

DETAIL ITINERARY:

Day 01: Drive Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1440m) -7 to 8 hours: Our Team Leader and potter come to in your hotel at 6:00 am. Then we head north out of Kathmandu to Syabru Besi about 7/8 hours scenic driving by bus or Land cruiser (depending on group size). The scenery of foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Besi goes through the Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati and Dhunche you feel as if you are heading towards deep land. While passing along the road at the bank of Trishuli River you catch a glimpse of Ganesh Himal, terraces and green hills. Behind Trisuli Bazaar the road is tricky because of the grubby road. Stay overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Trek Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,470m) -5 to 6 hours: As a first day of trekking, we are exciting; the first part of the trail crosses through Bhote Koshi and follows the Langtang Khola and gradually climbs to Bamboo (1960m) enjoy through the rhododendron and bamboo forests. The variety wildlife; yellow-throated martens, wild boars, langur monkeys, red pandas and Himalayan black bears etc. are inhabitance of this forest. Afterwards, your trek ascends gently to Rimche (2400m) through Bamboo which lies at the bank of Langtang Khola with few houses. Probably, we will have lunch at this place if you like. And at the end your trail is level to the Lama Hotel for the overnight stay.

Day 03: Trek Lama Hotel to Langtang (3,430m) -5 to 6 hours: Today, at the beginning the trail climbs up towards a steep forest slope to the Langtang River. The trail follows Gumanechok, Ghoda Tabela literally it means the Horse Stable. After this the trail is slightly gradual and beautiful in the valley with the grazing Yaks. After sometime descends into a valley, the trail cross a stream and climbs past several water-driven prayer wheels to the large settlement of Langtang. This is one of the old villages along this trekking route and the view from here is more spectacular as we get closer to mountain. Rest of the day we walk around village and stay overnight Guest house.

Day 04: Trek Langtang to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) -3 to 4 hours: The trail leads us through the tiny village, stone-built houses and climb to a Chorten and passed a huge mani along a gentle path of a hill. We have chance to test cheese and curd by Yak milk, it is remarkable of this place. This is a shorter walk but enough for acclimatization. The surroundings are interesting also because of the famous Cheese factory. This beautiful valley is in the lap of the Langtang Lirung and others around us. This is a good place to explore local culture similar as Tibetan which has been dragging from centuries.

Day 05: Explore day in Kyanjing Gumba: Today is a day to rest and explore around. We visit the monastery and the cheese factory or may walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri (4350m) and Tserko Ri (5,000m), which is highest point of this trek, directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the langtang Lirung, Langtang range, Kinshung, Yansa Tsenji and the foot of the huge Lirung Glacier. Descend to guesthouse for overnight.

Day 06: Trek Kyanjin Gompa to Ngegang (4000m) -4 to 5 hours: From here you can’t see any settlements and people live hood on our route. The trail goes on ascending high Himalaya area covered with little natural vegetation. We must have to well manage for shelter and food by ourselves. Sometime we have scarcity of water and miss the group on the puzzle trail. Today is easy trekking day (4.5 km Walk) comparatively next day, full of worth able breathtaking mountains scenery and pure of nature beauties. Our cook will serve you hot food and overnight at tented camp.

Day 07: Trek Ngegang to Keldang (4300m) via Ganja La (5,122m) -7 to 8 hours: Today is comparatively strenuous as you need to cross the Ganja la pass over 5200 meters. On the Ganja la pass, you can find it covered with snowy ice most of the times throughout the year. You must have to well equipped and stock some energetic food and carried enough drinking water. We will start to walk early in the morning to cross Ganja-La Pass before the sun gets to high in the sky. Today will obviously be one of the more strenuous trekking days (16km/8-9hrs), so remember to breathe and pace you. After the pass the trail descends to a small stream at 4,400m. After sometime following the stream we reach Keldang (4,280m), where we will stop for the night at camp. The cook will serve you hot food.

Day 08: Trek Keldang to Dukpu (4080m) -6 to 7 hours): Today is long day walking along the ridge, grassland, with amazing views of Mountain and its surrounded nature beauties. It is 7km (6-7hrs) treks to Dukpu, a summer settlement for the villagers of Helambu. Our camping site will be inside the forest. Stay overnight at tented camp.

Day 09: Trek Dukpu to Tarkeghyang (2560m) - 5 ½ to 6 hours: The trail today (11.5km) descends about 200mtrs and climb 4100meters pass. The views from Pass are spectacular towards the Annapurna Region, Mt. Everest region as well and native mountains. The trail descends through forest with pine, rhododendron past tiny herder's to the settlement of Tarkeghyang, where you can visit one of the oldest Buddhist monastery and picturesque Sherpa villages. These villages are well settled of friendly and cheerful natured people inhabit. Stay overnight either tented camp or guesthouse.

Day 10: Trek Tarke Gyang to Sermathang (2,610m) -4 to 5 hours: Today the trail is quite easy through flat land with beautiful forests. The trail leads us cross small forest with the view of beautiful village of Helembu region. The trail makes a sweep around the wide valley end between Parachin and the pretty Sharpa village of Gangyul. The people of this village practice Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism, the same as the national religion of Bhutan. This is another pretty Sherpa village where you can visit many ancient monasteries and view of Jugal Himal range at the north face of Shermathang village.

Day 11: Trek Sermathang to Melamchi Pul Bazaar (880m) -3 to4 hours and Drive to Katmandu -2 to 3 Hour's bus: After breakfast the trail gradually descends all the way to Melamchi Pul Bazaar through meadows and cultivated fields. Along the way, you come across several old villages with their own particular traditions. Walking today is quite pleasant with mountain views and the possibility of interacting with friendly local people. After having lunch we will drive back to Kathmandu through the road passing terraces, streams, rivers, local settlements and high hills. It takes about 2/3 hours (conditional) to reach your hotel in Kathmandu by bus.
